Melinda Beavers

Melinda wrote this about herself:
Melinda Beavers started drawing as soon as she could hold a crayon and has never stopped. At the age of three, her day care instructors were concerned that she was drawing horses all the time…but thankfully her parents recognized that it was pretty amazing a three year old was drawing recognizable horses and have been encouraging her artistic endeavors ever since.

Melinda received an BFA in illustration from Montclair State University. She's always had a passion for animals, nature, and children's literature. Her first picture book, The Zoo's Annual Piggyback Race was published in 2013—and went on to receive the New Mexico-Arizona Book Award for Children's Picture Book in 2014.

Her illustrations and designs have been published in multiple picture books and been juried into several international gallery shows. Melinda enjoys volunteering as Illustrator Coordinator for the SCBWI New Mexico region and as Secretary & Blog Master for the Colored Pencil Society of America's Albuquerque Chapter. When she's not illustrating, she works part-time as a bookseller.
