She shared her experience crafting her trade series centered on Jasmine Toguchi, an eight-year old Japanese American girl, as well as her two work-for-hire early chapter book series—My Furry Foster Family as well as Dorothy and Toto.

Have a character that feels real to young readers

Chapter books range from leveled readers for ages 4-6 up to middle grade novels for ages 8-12. Know the audience you write for and the word count in each.
